What is a histogram and how to use it?

The histogram provides a visual overview of your image’s brightness distribution, from pure black (0) to pure white (255). The horizontal axis represents brightness levels—shadows on the left, midtones in the middle, and highlights on the right—while the vertical axis shows how many pixels exist at each brightness level. By checking the shape of the histogram, you can quickly understand your photo’s light and dark composition, helping you adjust brightness, contrast, and color with greater precision.

When you hover your mouse over the preview, the corresponding RGB or LAB values are displayed in real time below the histogram. You can even view both sets of values simultaneously. To switch display modes, simply right-click on the area below the histogram and select the mode you need from the menu.
