How to Use Tenorshare UltData (iPod Data Recovery for Mac)?

Mode 1: Recover Data Directly from iPod without Backup

Select "Recover Data from iOS Device" when you don't have iTunes backup file on this Mac computer. This recovery mode directly scans your iPod to find lost or inaccessible data on your iPod.

Note: Stop any operation on your iPod like sending/receiving messages, calling/receiving calls, as soon as you realized that you've mistakenly deleted or lost your data. Otherwise, your lost data will be overwritten and become unrecoverable. Therefore, set your iPod to the flight mode.

Step 1. Connect iPod to Mac

In most cases, once connected, UltData (iPod Data Recovery for Mac) can detect your iPod automatically.

But sometimes, if your iPod gets stuck at recovery mode, after your iPod being well connected with the program, you’ll get a screen, showing “Exit Recovery Mode”, you should do as the prompts. For other cases, if your iPod gets stuck at apple logo, app crashes, DFU mode, blue screen of death, black screen and so on, you’ll be asked toclick “Download” button to download iCareFone once connected. Step 2: Start to Scan

Make sure your iPod is powered on and connect it to your Mac. On the main interface of this software, click "Start Scan" to start scanning all the file types. To reduce the time, you can also uncheck some options you don’t want to recover to scan part of the file types.

Note: The program needs some time to recognize your device, thus if you plug your device but the software crashes or "Start scan" Button grays out, simply restart the program.

Step 3: Preview and Select Lost Files

After a while, the scan finished. If you have selected all the data to scan, all the recoverable files will be listed by file type, including photos, contacts, messages, notes and etc. Similarly, if you have unchecked some options, the part of the data will be listed by file type. Highlight one file type and all the contents on listed on the right pane. You are allowed to preview the files before recovery. Select the files you need to recover and click "Recover".

Note: The lost files are marked in red color. You can tick "Only display the deleted items" to hide the existing files. You can tick "Check all" on the bottom to select all the files.

Step 4: Recover Lost Data

Specify a location on your Mac to save the recovered iPod files. For contacts, text messages, call history and other text file, they are saved in .xls, .xml, .txt file. For media file (photos, videos, audios), they are saved in their original formats.

Mode 2: Recover iPod Data from iTunes Backup

Select "Recover Data from iTunes Backup File" when your iPod device is lost, stolen, or damaged. It allows you to recover data by extracting previous iTunes backup. Therefore, ensure you have backed up your iPod or synced your iPod with iTunes.

Note: Don't sync your iPod with iTunes as soon as you realize that you've lost data, otherwise, the iTunes backup file of iPod will be updated after the sync.

Step 1: Select iTunes Backup File to Scan

This software will display backup file copies of the devices which have backed up with iTunes on this Mac. Select your iPod backup and click "Start Scan".

Step 2: Preview and Recover Lost Data

When scanning finished, all the files backed up by iTunes on this Mac are displayed by file type. Select one file type and you can preview all this kind of files on the right pane. Select the files you need to recover and click "Recover" to start recovering.

Data in Photo Stream, SMS Attachments and Videos can also be listed in time order for preview, which makes it a lot more easier to find the data you want to recover.

Step 3: Recover Lost Files

Choose a location on your Mac to save the recovered files on the popup. For text files(contacts, notes, messages, etc.), they are saved in .xls, .xml, .txt format for better reading. For media file (photos, videos, audios), they are saved in their original formats.

Mode 3: Restore iPod from iCloud backup

Select "Recover Data from iCloud Backup File" if you have ever backed up your iPod with iCloud. This mode allows you to extract and recover iPod data from iCloud backup.

Step 1: Login in iCloud Account

Then you will get the interface like below. Enter your Apple ID and password to login into iCloud account. If you've logged in to iCloud on your computer before, you can switch to Software Access which enables you to log in automatically and saves you the process of entering your Apple ID.

Step 2: Download and Scan iCloud backup

All individual iCloud backups are listed here. According to backup name, date, size, select the one you need and click "Next" to download. After the download process bar reaches 100%, it will scan the backup file for the lost iPod data.

Then a window will pop up for you to choose a file type you'd like to preview. Then click "Next" to download. After the download process bar reaches 100%, it will scan the backup file for the lost iPhone data.

Step 3: Preview and Recover Lost iPod Data

After a while, all the recoverable data are displayed by category. Select one file type on the left, and then preview and select the files you need to recover. Click "Recover" to save the recovered files on your Mac. Again, for text content like contacts, text messages, call history, they are saved in .xls, .xml, .txt file (contacts can be saved as VCF/Vcard files as well).
